Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow

Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow
Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow

If you’re unfamiliar with the Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow formula, it’s designed as a “sheer, lightly pearlized shadow.” There is an underlying sheerness with this shade, so it can easily be used as a wash of color. It is somewhat buildable to semi-opaque color coverage, but the faded quality of the wash is always there in the background unless you layered this over a white or purple base–I think you could get really full coverage that way (true with most sheer products).  There is some fall out from the sparkle, unfortunately!  Not that much translates from pan to eye Coach Factory Outlet Online, so there is less to contend with as fall out, but there is still some.  This wears just around eight hours with very, very subtle creasing without a primer, and it wears all day with a primer.

Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow

Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as an “electric purple.” It’s a red-toned violet purple with purple flecks of shimmer. MAC Power Boosted is similar but frosted. NYX Violetta is also similar but has gold flecks. Bare Escentuals Boudoir is frosted and lighter. Urban Decay Purple Haze is purpler, a bit darker. Urban Decay Fishnet is brighter, more shimmered.

Inglot’s Pearl Eyeshadow

Inglot Pearl Eyeshadows in Inglot #434, 444, 454 Coach Outlet, 451, 448, 447, 453 (Grays & Whites)

To wrap up our look at Inglot’s Pearl Eyeshadow ($4.50 to $7.00 each for 0.09 oz.), we have several grays and whites.  I’m not sure if there is a black eyeshadow with a pearl finish, but it could be in pot-form only or else not available online–seems hard to believe there isn’t any, though!   These were all easy to work; soft, smooth and application was seamless.  The color payoff is excellent without being excessive.  Lighter shades like #448 and 447 go on a lot lighter than they look in the pan, though.

Where to Buy: Inglot

Inglot #434

  • 434 is a purple-gray with a pearl finish. This shade was surprisingly complex; I think it’s that mix of purple and gray and silver, which still retains depth.
  • 444 is a gray just barely kissed by brown with a pearl finish. It’s not quite taupe, but it’s almost there.
  • 454 is a bright silver with subtle brown in the background. It has a pearl finish.
  • 451 is a dark, blue-based gray with a soft silver shimmer and pearl finish.
  • 448 is a bright silver with a pearl finish that leans more metallic.
  • 447 is a bright white that has a hint of silver with a pearl finish. It seems to have a high level of frost.
  • 453 is a bright white with a pearl finish. It is similar to #447 but is a truer white, while the other seems just slightly silvered in comparison.

MAC Styledriven: Pro Longwear Lipglasses (Part 1)

  • Dark as Night is a dark burgundy-wine with subtle gold and burgundy shimmer. It’s semi-opaque but this was one of the more difficult shades to apply evenly (I did not succeed). I can’t think of a dupe for this particular shade though; nothing I think of is dark enough.
  • Driven by Love is a rich red with gold shimmer. It’s a touch blue-based. This was the best performing shade out of the nine–not only is it intensely pigmented but delivers opaque color evenly. It is similar to several other red lipglosses, though.
  • Full Speed Ahead is a creamy bright pink with blue undertones. It’s mostly opaque and applies evenly if you’re patient. It is a touch darker than MAC True Babe. It is similar to OCC Pageant.
  • Infinitely Likeable is a light-medium pink with a good deal of milkiness to it. This one seemed thicker than the others; the swatch as shown is a single pull of gloss. It’s a bit darker than MAC Enchantee.
  • Lasting Achievement is a deep red with a hint of berry and gold shimmer. It has semi-opaque color coverage, but it goes on evenly. It is similar in color to Dolce & Gabbana Amethyst but more opaque.

Overall, the formula needs improvement. Some shades apply well and deliver both opaque and even color, but others have major issues with evenness. The ones that do apply evenly are rather high-maintenance; you don’t want to be pressing and sliding your lips together, because the gloss will move and look uneven.

MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass ($18.50 for 0.06 oz.) is supposed to last up to six hours with lots of shine and color. There are nine shades released as part of the Styledriven collection, and all nine are permanent. This post features these five: Dark as Night (deep mid-tone purple with slight pearlized pigments), Driven by Love (red-blue with slight pearlized pigments), Full Speed Ahead (bright pink-magenta), Infinitely Likeable (light pink), and Lasting Achievement (mid-tone purple with slight pearlized pigments).

They’re thick and almost goopy, and they get sticky very quickly. The texture didn’t seem sticky when I swatched, but on lips, it feels akin to glue (the stickiness is emphasized by the thicker consistency of the gloss). They are more pigmented than your average gloss, but I had some issues getting even color because of the thicker consistency. If you smush your lips together, forget about even color, because the color will pull and drag and you’ll get unevenness.

Where to Buy: Nordstrom Coach Outlet, $18.50 each

These are long-wearing, and I do get a five to six hours of wear out of them–even the lighter shades (like Ready or Not!). The darker shades (like Driven by Love) look really good at six hours, while lighter shades (like Ready or Not!) are still noticeably on and give decent color but look faded compared to when it was first applied. They have a nice dose of shine in the finish, and the shine hangs on for longer than the usual gloss.

I’m also frustrated at how little these tubes contain–0.06 oz. (which is as much as Dazzleglass–I’ve regularly complained about the amount in those, too) and yet how large they seem.  They’re long, thick tubes with a pinched sponge-tipped applicator that doesn’t bother me.  It doesn’t hinder or really help application.  I can see it being too large and hindering application for those who have naturally thin lips.

Make Up For Ever #2 Aqua Cream

Where to Buy: Sephora, $22

I’m a big fan of Aqua Creams Coach Factory Outlet Online, because they really stay on well. The formula is all about bringing “rich color payoff” with long-lasting wear that does not crease or smudge. These have creamy consistency that applies easily and smoothes out beautifully, but they do have a quicker dry down time–and once they set, they’re set for the rest of the day. I’ve worn numerous shades since they originally launched, and I’m never disappointed. The wear is truly phenomenal!

Make Up For Ever #2 Aqua Cream

Make Up For Ever #2 Aqua Cream ($22.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “silver gray” with a shimmer finish. It’s less silver and gray than it is dirty gray and brown–more taupe than silver. It has a frosted, metallic sheen. When it is sheered out, it looks browner and more taupe-like.  This shade is recommended for both eyes and cheeks, though I suspect most will use it on eyes.  The color reminded me of Chanel Epatant, which has a lot more shimmer.

Tarina Tarantino Dreamy Jewel Eyeshadow Palette

Where to Buy: Sephora, $32

On the left, there’s a frosted white gold with a soft, smooth texture and good color payoff. This shade is common enough that there are a few shades similar to it, including: Givenchy Lune Mysterieuse (yellower), theBalm Tempting Tara, theBalm Envious Erin, Urban Decay Zephyr Coach Outlet Online, and Bare Escentuals Breathtaking.

The top shade is a rich copper with hints of orange; it’s a lighter, rusted copper shade with a frosted finish. It’s brighter and more orange than a lot of coppery shades I’ve come across. Make Up For Ever #12 is browner, more bronzy. Urban Decay Baked and MAC Amber Lights are also more bronze. The pigmentation is amazing–intense and vibrant–with a dense, buttery texture.

On the right, there’s a rich, chocolaty brown with a bronze shimmer and sheen. It has a frost finish, rich pigmentation, and a smooth texture. Like the left shade, it is common and these shades are similar: Inglot #409, Inglot #422, and Urban Decay Lost.

I was pleasantly surprised by the texture and color payoff of this palette! I didn’t have particularly high expectations (I was thinking middle-of-the-road), but this was really, really good. This particular palette consists of a lot of dupeable shades, so long-time makeup aficionados will likely have similar shades already, but newcomers with warmer skin tones will find many reasons to fall in love with this palette. I’d love it if each shade had a name, though!

Tarina Tarantino Dreamy Jewel Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00 for 0.32 oz.) is part of the newly repackaged and launched beauty line by jewelry designer Tarina Tarantino. The eyeshadow formula in the palettes is supposed to have “intense, shimmery payoff” with “ultra high pigmentation.” The eyeshadows are touted as long-wearing and can be applied wet or dry. Each compact contains a good amount of eyeshadow, too, with each eyeshadow averaging out to 0.064 oz. (the average eyeshadow is around 0.05 oz.). For the price of two high-end eyeshadows, you’ll get five.

The bottom shade is a deep, dark brown with copper and bronze sparkle that tends to sit atop the color rather than completely embedded within it (like a typical frost). When I applied it, I did find that some of the shimmer transferred but it didn’t look quite as noticeable on the eye as it did in the swatch. The color payoff is very intense, though, and it’s so smooth when applied. It’s warmer and more shimmered than MAC Legendary Black.

In the middle, there’s a golden peach, which comes out more like a pale, muted gold than it does a peach. It has a metallic finish; the pigmentation is good but not as intense as the top shade, but it’s still very soft and smooth to the touch. It’s similar to Bobbi Brown Gold Bar.

I wore this palette (all five shades) with the muted gold on the lid, the softest touch of copper on the very outer lower lid, bronzy shade in the crease with the darker brown to add more depth in the crease, and the white gold on the brow bone. I wore it with and without a primer, and the results without a primer lasted for eight hours without creasing or fading but started to show faint signs of creasing by the tenth hour. With a primer, it was unmoved at ten hours.

Sinful Colors HD Nails (926) Nail Lacquer

Sinful Colors’ bottles have a slick cap (no rubberized cap), so use some care opening (especially when they’re new and very tightly screwed on), or else you might fling your polish across the room–which I totally did the first time I opened one. Luckily, it hadn’t opened, and it was over carpet, so it landed with a soft thud as opposed to a loud shattering!

The Glossover

The consistency wasn’t really thin, but it seemed watery Coach Outlet, which I imagine accounted for the low color payoff per coat. For swatches, I don’t like to go beyond three coats, as most polishes should be opaque (or reach the opacity level they’re supposed to have) by two coats, so three is being generous and more to show you what can be achieved. The biggest drawback with this particular shade was the post-manicure staining, which was a yellowy-green (I’d refer to it as the color of fungus, really), and this was over a base coat. I know that green pigments have a tendency to stain, but this was rather unappetizing and it took both buffing and a few soaks in lemon juice to minimize the staining aftermath. The good news there was it did last a week when worn!

Sinful Colors HD Nails (926) Nail Lacquer ($2.50 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a grassy green with a subtle cool undertone and silver shimmer. It’s still on the sheer side after three coats–you can definitely see the nail line. The finish has a slight metallic feel to it, so there are noticeable brush strokes (but they’re “as expected” for a more metallic finish). Zoya’s Apple seemed to be the closest shade I had to compare to, but Apple is a yellower green with lots of gold sparkle.

MAC Me Over

Coach Outlet
  • Carbonized is a rich chocolate brown with bronze shimmer. The color payoff is lovely with a really soft and smooth texture. This shade has a veluxe pearl finish (so it is only 0.04 oz.). Urban Decay Lost is a bit similar, but it has a more reflective sheen and appears lighter, which is the same reason why Inglot #422 is not a dupe.  It’s similar to MAC Centre Stage but with less shimmer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone is less brown.
  • Creamy Bisque is a soft, creamy ivory with a pink tint. The finish has a pearly sheen. The pigmentation is pretty good, and I can see this being a go-to highlighter for some. This shade has a frost finish. MAC Blanc Type is more beige. It’s more like a less frosted Phloof!
  • Moleskin is a softened, medium brown with a subtle, caramel warmth. This shade has a matte finish. It feels more like a satin to me, though–it has the same texture and, to some degree, the finish. It has good color payoff. It is a touch warmer than Urban Decay Naked but similar, though Naked has a softer formula. Inglot #337 is similar but has a redder base.
  • Mythical is a coppery brown with a metallic shimmer-sheen. This shade has a veluxe pearl finish (so it is only 0.04 oz.). The pigmentation is good, but the color itself has a faded quality to it, and the texture is smooth and soft. It is lighter than theBalm Racy Kacy, less brown and red-tinted compared to MAC Faux Gold. It’s also a muted version of Coppering.
  • Outre is a mustard-y brown–it has this mustard yellow tinge to it. This shade has a matte finish. It has a soft, smooth texture with lovely color payoff. It is reminiscent of MAC Ochre Style, which had shimmer in it. Double Feature 4 is muddier–it is grayer and browner. It’s darker and more yellowed than MAC Bamboo.
  • Satin Taupe is a dark taupe with a hint of burgundy and a frosted finish. This shade has a frost finish, and it is part of the permanent range. It is similar to Bare Escentuals Meteorite.

Where to Buy: MAC Cosmetics, $15 each

There are six shades of MAC Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) launched with MAC Me Over. They include: Carbonized (frosty dark brown), Creamy Bisque (mid-tone ivory with pearlized pigments), Moleskin (nude brown), Mythical (frosty copper red), Outre (mid-tone mustard), and Satin Taupe (taupe with silver shimmer).

The Glossover

The four I’ve tested so far are good.  The texture of both Mythical and Satin Taupe are excellent, but the color payoff is good across the board.  I think Moleskin, despite its demure manner, will be one that many will look to grab when it launches, because of its similarity to the famous Urban Decay Naked–consider it a sleeper hit.  I know Outre will look awful on me, but it has that so-ugly-it’s-pretty kind of appeal.
